A source at the Ministry of Education told Extra News TV that the decision to suspend classes was left to governors to assess based on local conditions, in coordination with the education and local development ministries. Several governorates, including Daqahliya, Sohag, Qena, Gharbiya, Minya, Assiut, Matrouh, New Valley, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Menoufiya, announced school closures on Thursday due to poor weather conditions and rainfall.

On Wednesday, Egypt suspended school classes nationwide as the country experienced a wave of unstable weather marked by moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across multiple regions, including Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, the Canal cities, and parts of Upper Egypt and Sinai.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned of wind speeds reaching 50–60 km/h in some areas, raising dust and reducing visibility, while thunderclouds brought lightning and localized flooding in low-lying areas. In coastal and desert areas, particularly Matrouh and the Western Desert, heavy downpours led to water accumulation, prompting local authorities to raise alert levels and take precautionary measures, including preparing emergency crews and monitoring infrastructure under strain.
