A phone call was conducted on Thursday, between Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad of Burkina Faso, Karamoko Traoré. The call addressed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries and included an exchange of views on regional issues of mutual interest.
The Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, stated that Minister Abdelatty extended his congratulations to his Burkinabè counterpart on his country’s assumption of the rotating presidency of the Alliance of Sahel States. He expressed Egypt’s aspiration to continue supporting and developing bilateral relations between the two countries and to strengthen mutual coordination on various issues of common interest at both the bilateral and regional levels, in line with the depth of the relations linking the two countries and the shared commitment to advancing them across all fields in a manner that serves their mutual interests.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral trade volume, intensifying direct engagement between business communities, and opening new horizons for Egyptian companies to invest in the fields of health, infrastructure, energy, mining, and construction. He also underscored the importance of following up on the implementation of the outcomes of business forums and his recent visits to the West Africa region accompanied by major companies, investors, and private sector representatives.
Minister Abdelatty further reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Burkina Faso’s efforts to combat terrorism and establish security and stability. He highlighted the security and military cooperation and capacity-building programs implemented by Egyptian institutions for the benefit of national cadres in Burkina Faso, as well as the programs carried out by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA). He commended the role played by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in promoting the values of tolerance and enlightened religious discourse and in strengthening cultural and religious ties, particularly through Al-Azhar’s mission and the various training courses for Burkinabè imams and preachers, in addition to the annual scholarships offered by Al-Azhar University to Burkinabé students.
The two Ministers concluded the call by affirming their commitment to continuing to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two countries across various fields at both the bilateral and multilateral levels, in a manner that supports security, stability, and development in Burkina Faso and across the African continent.
