Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education said on Tuesday it will suspend classes in all schools nationwide on Wednesday due to expected unstable weather conditions. The decision follows warnings from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) of a wave of volatile weather, including rain of varying intensity and strong winds carrying sand and dust across several governorates.
The ministry said the suspension aims to ensure student safety, particularly during the examination period, as weather conditions could disrupt travel and affect access to schools unevenly across the country. It added that it will coordinate with the EMA on Wednesday to assess conditions for Thursday and decide whether further closures are needed.
Forecasts indicate increased wind activity that could reduce visibility, alongside a chance of rainfall in multiple areas, raising concerns over mobility and safety. The ministry said central and local operations rooms will remain on standby around the clock to monitor developments and coordinate with relevant authorities. Parents were urged to rely on official updates and avoid spreading unverified information, with any further decisions to be announced through official channels.
Students were advised to use the day for revision and follow safety guidance, including avoiding open areas and staying clear of trees and electricity poles during strong winds. The move comes after a spell of unstable weather last week that led authorities to suspend classes on multiple days.
