El-Sisi, UAE President discuss bilateral ties, Gaza situation in Abu Dhabi

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met on Monday in Abu Dhabi with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to review bilateral relations, regional developments, and the situation in Gaza, the Egyptian presidency said.

During the visit, the two leaders toured the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, where El-Sisi was briefed on the university’s facilities, academic programmes, and advanced innovations in artificial intelligence and other technologies supporting the UAE’s national objectives.

According to Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the leaders later held a bilateral meeting over a working lunch.

El-Sisi thanked the UAE leadership for the warm reception, praising the high level of coordination and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in trade and investment.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s openness to attracting further Emirati investment, describing Egypt–UAE relations as a cornerstone of Arab national security and regional stability.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed welcomed El-Sisi to what he described as his second home, underscoring the special relationship between the two countries and Abu Dhabi’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation, including in trade and investment.

The leaders also discussed current regional developments, stressing the importance of Arab solidarity at a critical moment for the Middle East.

On Gaza, they emphasized the need for full implementation of the ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, and the swift launch of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

They also highlighted the importance of advancing a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, and of resolving regional crises peacefully while preserving state sovereignty and avoiding escalation.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed later accompanied President El-Sisi to Abu Dhabi International Airport to bid him farewell, the spokesman added.

The visit reflects the two leaders’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across various fields and to enhancing consultation and coordination on regional and international issues of shared interest, the presidency noted.

El-Sisi and bin Zayed have held several high-level meetings in recent months, highlighting close political coordination between Cairo and Abu Dhabi.

The UAE is Egypt’s largest Arab investor, with cumulative Emirati investments estimated at more than $35–40 billion, driven by recent mega-deals in real estate, infrastructure, ports, energy, and strategic assets.

The most prominent investment is the Ras El-Hekma development deal, signed in February 2024 with Abu Dhabi’s sovereign fund ADQ. Valued at up to $35 billion, the agreement included $24 billion in fresh foreign-currency inflows and the conversion of $11 billion in UAE deposits at the Central Bank of Egypt into local-currency investments.

Beyond real estate, Emirati investments have expanded rapidly into ports and logistics, reinforcing Egypt’s role as a regional trade hub.

In the energy and renewables sector, UAE companies, most notably Masdar, have invested in large-scale solar and wind projects and are participating in Egypt’s green hydrogen plans in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, supporting Cairo’s targets to expand clean energy and attract climate-linked financing.

UAE capital also maintains a strong presence in real estate, banking, and food security, with long-established developers and investors operating major residential and commercial projects, holding stakes in Egyptian financial institutions, and backing grain storage, agri-logistics, and trading facilities.
