Widespread Arab and Islamic Condemnation Over Israel’s Appointment of Diplomatic Envoy to “ Somaliland ”

Joint Statement Condemning Israel’s Announcement on “Somaliland”

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Türkiye, and Indonesia have issued a joint statement expressing their strongest condemnation of Israel’s announcement regarding the appointment of a diplomatic representative to the so-called “Somaliland.”

The ministers stressed that this move represents a flagrant violation of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. They underscored that Somaliland is internationally recognized as part of Somalia’s territory, and any attempt to treat it otherwise undermines the fundamental principles governing relations between states.

Rejection of Unilateral Measures

The joint statement reaffirmed the ministers’ unequivocal rejection of all unilateral actions that threaten the unity of states or infringe upon their sovereignty.

They emphasized that such measures are unacceptable under international norms and risk destabilizing already sensitive geopolitical environments.

The ministers reiterated their firm and unwavering support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. They also expressed full backing for Somalia’s legitimate state institutions, recognizing them as the sole representatives of the will of the Somali people.

Violation of International Law and Regional Risks

The statement further highlighted that Israel’s move constitutes a clear violation of established principles of international law, including the United Nations Charter and the African Union Constitutive Act.

According to the ministers, such actions set a dangerous precedent that could undermine regional stability, particularly in the Horn of Africa—a region already facing complex political and security challenges. They warned that these developments could have broader negative implications for peace and security at both the regional and international levels.

Call for Respecting Somalia’s Sovereignty

The ministers concluded by calling on the international community to uphold the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs. They stressed the importance of respecting Somalia’s unity and supporting efforts aimed at preserving stability and security across the Horn of Africa.
