American actress and former UNHCR Special Envoy, Angelina Jolie, called for the rapid delivery of additional humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing that Gaza’s residents are enduring severe suffering and a deep humanitarian tragedy under the current conditions.
Jolie made the remarks during a visit to the Rafah land crossing, accompanied by a delegation from the U.S. Department of State, in the presence of North Sinai Governor Major General Dr. Khaled Megawer and Ambassador Nabila Makram, former Minister of State for Immigration and Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Development Action.
She explained that her visit to the Rafah crossing aimed to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground and review ongoing efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, amid the growing needs of civilians for food, medical supplies, and essential relief.
The American actress and former UNHCR Special Envoy also commended Egypt’s efforts in receiving, storing, and dispatching humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that Gaza remains in urgent need of increased and sustained assistance.
For his part, North Sinai Governor Major General Dr. Khaled Megawer affirmed that the Rafah crossing has remained open from the Egyptian side and has not been closed since January 7, 2023, noting that the closure has been imposed from the Israeli side.
He further stressed that all Egyptian authorities are fully prepared to receive wounded and ill Palestinians and provide them with medical treatment at Egyptian hospitals, as part of Egypt’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the Palestinian people and alleviate their suffering.
