Egypt Reaffirms Arab Unity and De-escalation Efforts in High-Level Talks with Iraqi Prime Minister

In implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic to intensify coordination and consultation with the Arab states regarding the rapidly evolving developments in the region, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met on the evening of Thursday, 9 April, with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mohammad Shia’ Al-Sudani.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty conveyed an oral message from H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Iraqi Prime Minister, The message addressed the latest developments in the region and Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions in cooperation with regional and international parties, foremost among them Pakistan.
The Minister underscored the importance of ensuring the success of the negotiation track to consolidate the ceasefire and create conducive conditions for reaching an understanding between the United States and Iran to end the war.
Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s full condemnation of Iran’s unjustified and unacceptable targeting of the Gulf states, as well as Iraq and Jordan.
He further stressed the importance of halting any violations of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Arab states.
The Minister also condemned the flagrant Israeli aggression against Lebanon, emphasizing the necessity of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
On another note, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed that, in light of the serious developments in the region and their wide-ranging repercussions, there is an imperative for solidarity and mutual support among Arab states at this critical juncture.
Dr. Abdelatty stressed that relations among Arab states should be governed by mutual respect, respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, including in the relations between Iraq and Gulf states.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Iraq requested that his greetings and appreciation be conveyed to H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
He also expressed his appreciation for the President’s wisdom and valued efforts to de-escalate tensions and support security and stability in the region.
He further noted his appreciation for the President’s gracious gesture of dispatching the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Iraq, making him the first Arab and non-Arab foreign minister to visit Iraq since the beginning of the military escalation in the region.
The meeting also witnessed praise for the distinguished level reached in bilateral relations between the two countries. The two sides affirmed their keenness to further boost cooperation across various fields in order to meet the aspirations of the two peoples.
