Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Monday that Russia had foiled a large-scale terrorist attack carried out by Ukraine using 91 long-range drones targeting the residence of President Vladimir Putin in Novgorod region.
Lavrov, in statements reported by the Russian news agency Sputnik, explained that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed all attacking drones, confirming that no human casualties or material damage occurred from the falling debris. He emphasized that these reckless actions will not go unanswered by Moscow.
Russia Continues Negotiations with Washington
Lavrov stressed that Russia has no intention of withdrawing from ongoing negotiations with the United States to resolve the conflict with Ukraine, noting that the attack occurred while intensive talks were taking place between both sides, highlighting Moscow’s commitment to continuing international dialogue despite the recent military escalation.
Kyiv Undermines U.S. Peace Efforts
Meanwhile, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs, stated that Ukraine’s attempt to attack Putin’s residence is not only a provocation against Russia but also undermines U.S. peace efforts.
Slutsky said:
“This attack is not just a provocation against Russia, it also undermines American peace efforts. It is not surprising that U.S. President Donald Trump described Kyiv’s actions as ‘madness,’ while promising to reconsider his approach toward working with the Ukrainian delegation.”
He also affirmed that Russia is expected to take retaliatory measures against Ukraine in response to the attack.
Putin Confirms Russian Forces’ Progress
Earlier today, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russian armed forces continue to make confident progress on the battlefield, confirming that military operations are proceeding according to plans to strengthen Russian security on multiple fronts.
