Amid Spiralling Protests ..Iran’s Pezeshkian Pledges Economic Overhaul

The United States has issued an emergency security alert ordering all American citizens to depart Iran immediately, citing an “escalating and volatile” environment marked by violent anti-government protests and a severe state crackdown.

The virtual US Embassy for Iran warned nationals to finalize departure plans without expecting government assistance, as President Donald Trump reviews military and diplomatic options in response to the unrest

The directive emphasizes the high risk of arbitrary detention and warns that demonstrating a connection to the US is currently sufficient grounds for arrest by Iranian authorities.

Meanwhile , US President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on any country doing business with Iran, ramping up pressure as a rights group estimated a crackdown on protests has killed at least 648 people.

Trump, who has repeatedly threatened Iran with military intervention, said in a social media post on Monday that the new levies would “immediately” hit the Islamic republic’s trading partners who also do business with the United States.

“This Order is final and conclusive,” he wrote, without specifying who they will affect.

The “Leave Now” order serves as a definitive signal of deteriorating bilateral relations and a potential prelude to more aggressive US action.

For the private sector and international organizations, the departure of US nationals and the resulting “brain drain” of dual-national experts could further destabilize Iran’s economy.

Geopolitically, the move forces regional neighbors Armenia and Turkey to prepare for a potential influx of western nationals, while signaling to Tehran that the US is clearing the board for a new phase of maximum pressure.

US citizens are urged to utilize land borders into Armenia or Turkey if safe conditions permit, while dual nationals are cautioned they will be treated solely as Iranian citizens.

Widespread internet blackouts, road closures, and disruptions to public transportation are hindering communication and movement across the country.

The State Department highlighted a “significant risk” of questioning and arrest, noting that the Iranian government does not recognize dual nationality.

With no direct diplomatic presence, the US relies on the Swiss Embassy in Tehran as its protecting power, but warns it cannot guarantee the safety of those attempting to depart.

The exit order coincides with a surge in regional tensions following Trump’s announcement of 25% tariffs on Iran’s trade partners and ongoing discussions regarding potential strikes.
