Egypt Welcomes Dutch Cabinet Decree Banning Trade of Goods and Products from Israeli Settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories
Egypt welcomes the decree adopted by the Dutch Cabinet banning the import and trade of goods and products originating from Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem.
Egypt reaffirms that this step supports the values of justice and represents a practical and responsible application of the principles of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, most notably Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms that settlement activities are illegal, and calls for their immediate cessation in order to avoid undermining the prospects for peace and the two-State solution.
Stemming from its steadfast stance and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, Egypt urges all European Union member states and the international community to follow the lead of Belgium and the Netherlands, and take similar legal measures to ban settlements’ products.
Egypt further reiterates that achieving security and peace in the Middle East will solely be feasible through putting an end to the occupation and empowering the Palestinian people of obtaining their legitimate rights to self-determination, mainly the establishment of their independent and sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
