A serious escalation unfolded in the town of Al-Dabba in northern Sudan, as drones operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out an attack early Friday, the first day of Eid al-Fitr. The strike resulted in a widespread power outage and left several civilians injured, heightening tensions in the region.
Details of the RSF Drone Attack
Mohamed Saber, Executive Director of Al-Dabba Foundation and head of the local security committee, confirmed that RSF forces launched multiple strategic drones targeting the town in the early morning hours.
In a press statement, Saber said the strikes hit civilian areas, including the Faculty of Engineering, leaving three people injured with varying degrees of wounds. The attack came as residents were marking Eid celebrations.
One of the drone strikes hit a power transformer station in Al-Dabba, causing a complete electricity blackout across the town. The outage has compounded the already dire humanitarian conditions facing residents in parts of Sudan.
The local official accused RSF forces of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure to instill fear and panic among unarmed residents during a religious holiday, describing the act as a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
He added that the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied regular units remain on high alert to repel any further attacks, emphasizing ongoing defensive operations to secure the area.
A military source told Sudan Tribune that the attack occurred at dawn, noting that army air defense systems engaged the incoming drones over the town in an effort to intercept them and limit the damage.
Reports of Massacre in Northern Bara
In a related development, the Sudan Doctors Network accused RSF forces two days earlier of carrying out a massacre in the “Shreim Mima” area, north of the city of Bara, also in Sudan.
According to the network, 12 people—including six women—were killed, and three others were injured after being accused of affiliating with the Sudanese army. The group described the incident as a blatant violation of international laws and humanitarian norms.
The Sudan Doctors Network stressed that repeated violations against civilians in RSF-controlled areas demonstrate a complete lack of commitment to protecting lives and property.
It warned that such attacks could trigger further displacement and worsen the already deteriorating humanitarian situation across the country, urging the international community to take responsibility.
Calls for Urgent International Action
The network held RSF fully responsible for these violations and called on the international community to exert immediate pressure on its leadership to halt such crimes.
It also urged the provision of urgent protection for civilians and the opening of safe corridors for those remaining in affected villages around Bara, as security and humanitarian risks continue to escalate.
