CAS Schedules Hearing in Senegal’s Appeal Over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Final
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it has scheduled a hearing in the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) concerning the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025).
According to a statement issued by CAS on Friday, the hearing will take place on October 8, 2026, at the Court’s headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, where the panel will examine the appeal challenging CAF’s decision on the outcome of the AFCON 2025 final.
Senegal Challenges CAF Decision Over AFCON 2025 Final
CAS stated that it officially registered the FSF’s appeal on March 25, 2026. The appeal seeks to overturn CAF’s decision declaring Senegal to have forfeited the AFCON 2025 final, awarding the match to Morocco by a 3-0 scoreline.
The Senegalese Football Federation is also requesting that CAS declare Senegal the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, replacing Morocco as tournament champion.
The Court explained that the parties failed to reach an agreement on conducting the case under an expedited procedure. As a result, the appeal is proceeding according to the standard timetable established under the CAS procedural rules.
CAS added that the hearing date was determined after consultation with all parties, none of whom requested a public hearing. Consequently, the proceedings will be held behind closed doors.
Final Ruling Will Be Issued at a Later Date
Following the hearing, the CAS arbitral panel will begin its deliberations before issuing a final award.
The Court noted that it is not currently in a position to indicate when its decision will be rendered, emphasizing that the ruling will not be announced on the day of the hearing.
In its statement, CAS also said it had become aware of incorrect information circulating regarding the proceedings, some of which had been repeated by media outlets.
The Court stressed that only information released through CAS’s official communication channels should be regarded as authoritative. Any official updates or announcements related to the case will be published on the Court’s official website, while accredited journalists may direct their inquiries to the CAS Press Office.
