Egypt Participates in AU STC-CICT Sixth Ordinary Session

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is participating in the Sixth Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Communication and ICT (STC-CICT-6), held on October 26–30 in Libreville, Gabon, The session takes place alongside a ministerial meeting on consolidating Africa’s preparations for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026.
The Committee is the primary platform for African ministers of ICT, telecommunications, posts, and digitalization to adopt continental policies and strategies, provide guidance, and deliberate on key issues that call for collaborative efforts to advance Africa’s digital agenda.
The session brings together ministers in charge of the sector from AU Member States, AU specialized institutions, and international organizations, as well as African and international partners working on digital and emerging technologies.
It reviews key achievements in advancing Africa’s digital agenda and explores strategies for strengthening the continent’s leadership and influence in defining the rules, standards, and governance frameworks that will shape the global digital and AI landscape.
The agenda includes a Continental Capacity Building Workshop on Digital ID, followed by an Experts’ Session to discuss the technical items on the session’s agenda, as well as technical side events.
The STC Ministerial Session takes place on October 29, followed by a ministerial session titled “Road to Doha” in preparation for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference.
It is worth noting that Egypt hosted the Third Ordinary Session of the Committee in Sharm El-Sheikh in October 2019, where key decisions were adopted. These included the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa 2020-2030, the establishment of the African Working Group on Artificial Intelligence (AIWG), and the adoption of the AU Data Policy Framework.
Notably, AIWG is chaired by Egypt and led the development of the AU Continental AI Strategy, which was endorsed by the AU Executive Council during its 45th Ordinary Session in Accra, Ghana, in July 2024.
