The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) said it sent 197,000 food baskets to Gaza early Thursday, part of a campaign to provide one million freshly prepared iftar meals for Palestinians during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
This delivery marks the 142nd aid convoy under the “Zad Al-Izza” initiative, a large-scale effort to ease the suffering of Palestinians caused by the ongoing war and food insecurity in the territory.
The convoy carried more than 760,000 tons of humanitarian aid, including over 235 tons of flour, 390 tons of medicines and medical supplies, and about 760 tons of petroleum products , Blankets and winter clothing were also delivered, the ERC said in a statement.
The shipment is intended to support families in Gaza throughout the holy month, which began on Wednesday in the enclave, alongside broader food and medical assistance for Palestinians.
ERC teams at the Rafah crossing also received a 14th group of wounded and sick Palestinian evacuees, the organization added. They are providing psychological support for children, helping reunite families, and distributing suhoor and iftar meals.
Since the war erupted in October 2023, Egypt, in coordination with the United Nations and other international partners, has consistently delivered humanitarian aid to Gaza despite ongoing Israeli restrictions
Its relief effort has continued for more than 760 consecutive days, delivering over 800,000 tons of aid through the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings.
The operation is overseen by the ERC, which manages a nationwide logistics network supported by more than 65,000 volunteers
