Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in Sudan, affirmed that the military establishment has no affiliation with any political organizations or ideological movements, stressing that the army’s sole allegiance is to the Sudanese people.
Speaking in his first remarks following a decision by the U.S. Department of State to designate a group as a terrorist organization, Al-Burhan stated: “We do not recognize Muslim Brotherhood, the National Congress Party, or the Communists. We recognize only the Sudanese people, and we will live and die with them.”
He emphasized that the Sudanese Armed Forces will remain committed to defending the nation and preserving the unity and sovereignty of the state.
Al-Burhan Praises Armed Forces and Volunteers in “Battle of Dignity”
Al-Burhan made the remarks during his participation in an annual Ramadan iftar hosted by the Nazir of the Rabatab tribe, Khalifa Sheikh Al-Saem, in Al-Jazeera Maqrat area of the city of Abu Hamad in River Nile State.
At the beginning of his address, Al-Burhan paid tribute to officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers of the Sudanese Armed Forces, supporting forces, and volunteer mobilization units who, he said, sacrificed immensely during what he described as the “Battle of Dignity” in defense of the Sudanese people’s honor and sovereignty.
He reiterated that the armed forces stand shoulder to shoulder with the Sudanese population in confronting the country’s current challenges, noting that the army and the people remain united in safeguarding the nation and its institutions.
Peaceful Coexistence in River Nile State a Model for Sudan
The Sudanese leader also pointed to the peaceful coexistence in River Nile State, saying it should serve as a model for other regions across Sudan.
He noted that the state has welcomed a large number of civilians displaced by the ongoing war, highlighting that people from diverse tribes and ethnic backgrounds have merged into a cohesive national fabric, demonstrating the resilience and unity of Sudanese society in times of crisis.
Gold Mining a Key Pillar of Sudan’s National Economy
Addressing economic issues, Al-Burhan said that gold mining has become one of the primary resources of Sudan’s national economy and a crucial factor sustaining the country despite the multiple challenges facing the sector.
He acknowledged that miners and workers in the industry face numerous operational difficulties, but emphasized that the sector remains strategically vital to Sudan’s economic stability.
In this context, Al-Burhan directed the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company to optimize the use of social responsibility funds and ensure they are channeled toward local communities in mining areas, particularly to support public services and development projects that benefit residents.
Al-Burhan: The State’s Objective Is to Defeat Rebellion
Al-Burhan stressed that the central objective of the Sudanese state is to liberate the country from rebellion, asserting that rebel forces aim to seize the state and control its resources and national assets.
He stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces and the public remain united in confronting these attempts, adding:
“Our project is to cleanse the country of any person, party, or entity that seeks to seize its resources and capabilities.”
He further asserted that no one will be able to hijack the Sudanese state or dominate its national resources.
No Ceasefire or Negotiations Until Weapons Are Laid Down
Al-Burhan declared that what he called the “Battle of Dignity” will continue until its objectives are achieved, including eliminating rebellion and restoring full state authority.
He stated clearly:“There will be no truce, no ceasefire, and no reconciliation with them until they lay down their weapons.”
At the same time, he said Sudanese political figures currently living abroad would be welcome to return to the country if they choose to come back and pursue what he described as the right path, emphasizing that the state is open to their participation in rebuilding Sudan.
