African Journalists Union Mourns the Passing of Journalist Gamal Nkrumah

With profound sadness and sorrow, the African Journalists Union (AJU), headed by Dr. Mohamed Fayez Farahat, mourns the passing of prominent journalist and writer Gamal Nkrumah, who passed away yesterday, Friday, in Egypt.

Over the course of three decades, Gamal Nkrumah enriched the pages of Al-Ahram Weekly with his writings and valuable contributions to the coverage and analysis of African and international affairs.

The Union expresses its deep appreciation for the late journalist’s distinguished career and his unwavering commitment to the issues facing the African continent, as well as its aspirations for freedom, justice, and development.

Through his heritage, upbringing, and cultural identity, Gamal Nkrumah embodied the profound historical and cultural ties between Egypt and Africa. As the son of the late Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah and his Egyptian wife, Fathia Nkrumah, he represented a unique human and cultural bond between Egypt and Ghana.

The Union extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and colleagues at Al-Ahram Weekly, praying that Almighty God grants him His infinite mercy.

The funeral prayer is scheduled to take place today, October 17, following the Asr (afternoon) prayer at Al-Firdous Mosque in Nasr City, Cairo, in the presence of his sister, Ms. Samia Nkrumah.
