Egypt secures release of fishing boat; nine sailors from Saudi Arabia

The Egyptian foreign ministry announced on Saturday the release of an Egyptian fishing boat detained in Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk region after mistakenly entering Saudi territorial waters on Oct. 16.

The boat, named Mohamed Abu El-Azaem, has left Tabuk carrying its nine Egyptian crew members and is heading back to Egypt, the ministry said.

The vessel was supplied with fuel, food and other essential provisions to ensure a safe return.

The ministry said the release followed diplomatic efforts and cooperation with Saudi authorities as part of its commitment to protecting Egyptians abroad.

It urged fishermen to comply with maritime navigation and fishing regulations and avoid entering neighboring countries’ territorial waters without the required permits.
