Foreign Minister and his French Counterpart Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, received French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Saturday, May 9.
The meeting focused on ways to strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries, as well as regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
The two ministers praised the depth of bilateral ties between the two countries, particularly following the elevation of relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
They also expressed their aspiration to advance cooperation across all fields, especially in the economic and trade sectors.
Regarding regional issues, the ministers reviewed developments in the negotiation track between the United States and Iran , Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of supporting the negotiation process as the only path toward de-escalation and halting the war.
He also emphasized the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and taking into account the security concerns of the Gulf Arab states, reaffirming Egypt’s condemnation of unjustified attacks on the Arab countries.
The two ministers also exchanged views on developments related to the Palestinian issue.
Minister Abdelatty underscored the importance of implementing the requirements of the first phase of the American plan and moving toward the implementation of the second phase.
He also highlighted the importance of the national committee for the administration of the Gaza Strip beginning its duties from within the territory and the swift deployment of the international stabilization force.
The meeting also tackled the situation in Lebanon.
Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Lebanon.
He stressed Egypt’s condemnation of repeated Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
He underscored the necessity of preserving Lebanon’s territorial integrity and supporting national institutions to fully assume their responsibilities in maintaining the country’s security and stability.
For his part, the French foreign minister praised the growing momentum witnessed in Egyptian-French relations across various fields.
He further expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s unwavering efforts to contain escalation in the region.
The two foreign ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation and to work jointly toward reducing tensions and supporting security and stability in the region
