Egypt and Uganda Deepen Bilateral Ties, Coordinate on Nile Security and African Stability
On Friday, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, met with President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda on the sidelines of the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in Kampala, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on issues of mutual interest.
Minister Abdelatty conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to H.E. President Museveni, reaffirming Egypt’s pride in the longstanding and historic ties between the two countries.
He also praised the growing momentum in bilateral relations and the exchange of high-level visits, most recently H.E. President El-Sisi’s visit to Kampala in May 2026.
H.E. President Museveni asked Minister Abdelatty to convey his greetings and appreciation to H.E. President El-Sisi, valuing his constructive role in promoting peace and stability in Africa and the Middle East.
He reaffirmed Uganda’s keenness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with Egypt, in light of the historic ties bonding the two countries.
On bilateral relations, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation, particularly in infrastructure, energy, mining, agriculture, water resources management, and pharmaceutical industry.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand the Egyptian Medical Centre in Jinja, renewing the invitation to H.E. President Museveni to participate in the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit, to be hosted by Egypt on October 4th, 2026, as well as the African Business Forum to be held on its sidelines.
Regarding water security, Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of cooperation and integration in the Nile Basin to achieve mutual benefit and shared interests. He underscored the necessity to adhere to the spirit of consensus and solidarity among the Southern Nile Basin countries, restore inclusiveness within the Nile Basin Initiative, and reject unilateral actions in the Eastern Nile Basin.
He also praised Uganda’s leadership of the Initiative’s consultative process and the ministerial decisions aimed at restoring consensus and advancing joint development projects in accordance with international law.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional developments, particularly in Sudan, Somalia, and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and agreed to strengthen bilateral and multilateral coordination in support of peace, stability, and development across Africa .
