UN releases $3 million for people fleeing southern Ethiopia into Kenya

UN emergency relief coordinator Tom Fletcher allocated $3 million to help people fleeing intercommunal violence in southern Ethiopia into northern Kenya, People Daily and Kenyans report.
Both attribute the announcement to Friday; People Daily reproduces his post. The Central Emergency Response Fund allocation supports food, water, shelter and health assistance.
Fletcher said nearly 50,000 people had fled into Kenya. That is an earlier displacement estimate, not a count of overnight arrivals.
Many families are staying with communities around Moyale, putting pressure on limited services and resources.
Arrival figures remain subject to verification as registration and assessments of displaced families continue.
