The Arab Republic of Egypt welcomes the announcement by the United States, made on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, regarding the designation of the “Muslim Brotherhood” organization in Egypt as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT)” organization , considering it a pivotal step that reflects the dangerous nature of this group and its extremist ideology, and the direct threat it poses to regional and international security and stability.
Egypt commends the efforts undertaken by the U.S. administration, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, in combating international terrorism and confronting terrorist organizations, in a manner fully consistent with Egypt’s firm position toward the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood organization, which Egypt classifies as a terrorist organization founded on violence, extremism, and incitement, and which exploits religion to achieve political objectives. Egypt and countries of the region have suffered from this organization for decades, during which this terrorist group committed crimes and acts of violence targeting members of the Egyptian people, including police forces, the armed forces, and civilians, as part of a systematic attempt to undermine the country’s security and stability.
Egypt affirms that this recent U.S. designation reflects the correctness and soundness of Egypt’s firm stance toward the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood, adopted by the state following the glorious 30 June 2013 Revolution, in defense of the will of the Egyptian people and in protection of national state institutions, as the terrorist organization sought to hijack the state and employ violence and terrorism to impose its destructive agenda.
Egypt further underscored that the immense sacrifices it has made in the fight against terrorism reflect the state’s steadfast commitment to confronting extremist ideology and violence in order to protect national security and the capabilities of the Egyptian state.
Egypt underscores its keenness to continue its efforts to strengthen international cooperation in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, drying up its ideological and financial sources, and confronting all extremist organizations that threaten international peace and security. Egypt renews its commitment to continuing coordination and cooperation with international partners to combat terrorism and eliminate its sources everywhere, in defense of the interests, security, and stability of Egypt, the region, and the world as a whole.
