Egypt Welcomes Ireland’s Adoption of Law Banning the Import of Goods from Israeli Settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Egypt welcomes Ireland’s adoption of the law on Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, which prohibits the import of goods produced in Israeli settlements, as well as the completion of the necessary constitutional and legislative procedures for its enactment into law.

Egypt considers this step to be an important stance that reflects a commitment to the provisions of international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy. Egypt also underscores the rejection of Israel’s illegal settlement activities, which violate the rights of the Palestinian people and undermine the prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace.

Egypt reiterates its call on the member states of the European Union and the international community to adopt similar legal and practical measures to ensure that they do not, directly or indirectly, contribute to supporting or sustaining illegal settlements.

Egypt also reaffirms its steadfast support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, stressing that achieving security and stability in the Middle East requires ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
