Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty condemned Israel’s ongoing violations of the Gaza ceasefire and the accelerating annexation measures in the West Bank during a ministerial session at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Addressing the council, FM Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to resolving the Palestinian issue, saying the international community has a collective responsibility to implement the transition arrangements outlined in Resolution 2803 to end Israel’s war in Gaza.
He urged Israel to stop ceasefire violations and lift restrictions on UN agencies and humanitarian organizations and called for the second phase of the truce to be implemented, including the rapid formation and deployment of an International Stabilization Force to monitor the ceasefire and facilitate aid deliveries.
Abdelatty also stressed the need for the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to begin operating inside the territory as a step toward the Palestinian Authority assuming full control.
The minister highlighted the importance of accelerating recovery and reconstruction, noting that restoring essential services is crucial for Palestinians to remain in their homes and for long-term stability.
Turning to the occupied West Bank, Abdelatty condemned recent Israeli decisions to expand settlement construction as a flagrant violation of international law and prior Security Council resolutions.
He urged Israel to refrain from any measures that could lead to demographic displacement or alter the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories and called for unhindered movement through the Rafah crossing.
He reiterated Egypt’s backing for growing international momentum toward formal recognition of the State of Palestine and renewed Cairo’s call for Palestine to obtain full UN membership.
Comprehensive Middle East peace requires Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and full respect for Lebanese sovereignty, Abdelatty added.
Reaffirming Egypt’s support for the territorial integrity of Syria and Lebanon, Abdelatty echoed President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s vision of a “historic opportunity” for a region grounded in stability and international law.
