The presidential decree, broadcast on state media, saw the removal of Foreign Affairs Minister Monday Semaya Kumba and Internal Security Bureau Director General Mawien Mawien Ariik, To fill the diplomatic void, Kiir reappointed James Pitia Morgan, a veteran diplomat who previously held the post and served as a presidential envoy to the Great Lakes region.
This strategic reinstatement suggests a desire for experienced leadership as the nation navigates complex regional engagements and high-level diplomatic dialogues.
The restructuring also extended deep into the security and trade apparatus, reflecting an effort to strengthen oversight and internal control.
The appointment of Akec Tong Aleu—a former high-ranking defense official—as the new head of the Internal Security Bureau indicates a shift toward more rigid management of sensitive information and intelligence coordination. Simultaneously, the reshuffle involved the reassignment of Atong Kuol Manyang from the Ministry of Trade to Youth and Sports, while Labanya Margaret Mathya Ugila stepped in to lead the trade sector.
